Random News: Building Excitment for The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug-Part 2

Hello Lovely Readers,

Due to decorating a Christmas tree the size of a mountain troll, I wasn’t able to finish a review for today, so instead you get more Tolkien inspired fun. Hopefully those crazy few that  went to the midnight premieres of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug really enjoyed it. I will be seeing it in 10 hours, and have the soundtrack from the first movie on repeat on my computer (with occasionally taking breaks to play some songs from the old Hobbit animated movie!).

My first find was a list of times when Legolas was making funny faces in the background from the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (I know technically it is all one book, but the movies are a trilogy, just in case any hard core Tolkien fans have issues with this!). You can see the gifs and pictures of him here. At first I wasn’t very happy with the idea that Peter Jackson had decided to add Legolas to this movie, but the idea has grown on me, and hopefully it will work well in the movie. I think my favorite picture from the set is one that is from a behind the scenes video about the filming of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug!

While Legolas’ face may have been the unsung hero of the first three movies, some have already started to argue his father, Thranduil the King of Mirkwood, is the real star of the Hobbit trilogy. You can view the “argument” here. I really like the actor Lee Pace, and I think they have done an excellent job choreographing his movements to make him really appear not human, and he does look like Legolas.

There was  also a sort of neat, short video with 8 Things You Didn’t Know About “The Hobbit”.I knew about half of the facts, but it was still neat to watch. You can view the video above. I suggest just turning the sound off and listening to this amazing cover of The Misty Mountains by Peter Hollins, which is below.

The last is maybe one of my favorite finds, as it is a list of cheesy/horrible pick up lines based on the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Hopefully none of them were meant seriously, and they did make me laugh! You can see the list here. I think the only one that sort of works is “Sauron’s gonna be after me because he knows I’ve found the one.”

Hope you guys have a great weekend, and for those going to see the movie, I hope it is as good as we all want it to be. I am still deciding if I am wearing my Lord of the Rings hair chopsticks tonight, or adding some elf braids (plaits for you UK readers)… I know, the really important questions! Feel free to let me know what you thought of the movie in the comments, just no spoilers, please (just on things not in the original Hobbit text at least, feel free to spoil the book, it has been out for a while!).

Until next time,

About Lynne

I am currently a PhD student of Forensic Psychology, which may explain the off mix of extremely morbid books sitting next to children’s books. Hailing from the Midwest in the United States of America, I have now lived in England for over 2 years (which will explain any strange grammar usage). From a very young age, my parents cultivated a love of reading, and never restricted what I read. When I reached middle school I began reading Shakespeare (a lifelong love affair), but had also discovered the wonders of young adult fiction. While the world may now expect me to read books more reflective of my age, I have fought this and am a strong supporter of the YA novel! Despite having very little free time, I still sets aside time for a reading every evening, and listens to books on my way to University. I dream of one day being a published novelist and published scientist!
